Halloween Organized Play Announcement – Part 2

Greetings Lightseekers,

As mentioned previously this week, today we will be showing off our fantastic Organized Play promo cards. These will be featured in our new OTP (Official Tournament Pack) that can be found in the new wave of OP kits starting mid October.

Each card has been given a border for the theme ‘Halloween Horror’. The cards included in this will be the Basic Buff removal of each of the 6 Orders, or more specifically, these cards are:

Halloween Organized Play Announcement – Part 1

Greetings Lightseekers,

We have something amazing to share with you today. In just under a month we will be rounding off our first wave of Organized Play. What this means is that it’s time to announce our next series of Organized Play!

Starting mid October, the new OP kits will last for 6 weeks instead of the current 4 and will contain 24 OTPs (Official Tournament Pack) as well as a brand new themed playmat.
Each pack is individually wrapped and contains 1 of 6 pre existing cards, however, each will feature a brand new themed card border.

That’s not all, collectors out there will also be pleased to hear that there is also a 1 in 4 chance that this card is foil.

With this in mind, players will be able to receive OTPs when participating in Organized Play at their local game stores, as well as being in with a chance to win the ‘Halloween Horror’ playmat:

Still wondering what cards are featured in our first OTP? Fear not as we will be revealing all 6 later on this week. Until then, let us know on the forums what you think they will be or what you’d like to see!

Kindred Digital

Greetings Lightseekers,

Even with Kindred having only been out for 3 weeks, we have loved seeing the sheer creativity of our community with adding the new Family strategies and other cards to their decks, especially through the ongoing Decklist Competition. With this in mind, a lot of you have been eagerly awaiting all of these cards becoming playable in the Digital TCG.

Unfortunately, due to unforeseen complications with implementing some of the cards we will not have Kindred available digitally in August. We are doing our best to make sure that we address all of the issues before releasing it in order to give you guys the play experience that you deserve. With the ongoing response to Ranked Play we do not want any bugs or issues to arise when the new cards are added in.

We do not currently have an exact release date at this point in time, however, keep your eyes on our social media outlets for an announcement soon.

Comprehensive Rules Update

Hello Lightseekers,

We’ve got one more update to make to the Comprehensive Rules to Lightseekers. Previously if a card that stored cards under it (Stone Scribe or Carabid Scavenger for example), was Returned, then the cards underneath it were also Returned to the hand. Upon further review of this rule, there are some strategies in the game that can take advantage of this rule to lock out the game, and prevent a player from taking any actions (in a way similar to the banned card, Shadow Wraith); which is not a style of gameplay that we want in Lightseekers.

Moving forward, when a card storing other cards is Returned, the cards underneath are moved to the Discard Pile (in much the same way as when a card storing cards is Removed). This rule change will go into effect from the coming Monday, 20th of August for the physical game, and will be present in a future update to the digital game (along with the previous changes such as Discard Pile viewing).

You can check out an updated version of the Comprehensive Rules here.

Reprints in Kindred

Hi Lightseekers,

It’s come to our attention over the weekend that 2 cards were left out of the set when making the boosters for Lightseekers: Kindred. Unfortunately this means that Tantosian Blacksmith (Uncommon) & Weapon Master (Rare) will not be found in Kindred booster packs. So today we’re going to be talking about how this happened (and how we’re going to avoid it happening again), and what will be happening in regards to getting Tantosian Blacksmith & Weapon Master in future.

How Did It Happen?

Over the course of production on a Lightseekers set there is a lot of back and forth between the production team at PlayFusion and the company that prints the set. During this, we get to see print proofs (big sheets that come off the printers before the cards are cut up) that show us what the final versions of the cards will look like and we have a chance to make any corrections that are needed to the art, framing, card text, foiling, and check that they scan into the digital game correctly. At the point where we got our last round of print proofs, both Tantosian Blacksmith & Weapon Master were on the sheets. So what happened to them?

When we send off the information regarding card details (e.g. this card is a Rare, this card is a Common, etc), there was a an error in one of the sheets that had Tantosian Blacksmith & Weapon Master marked down as being Deck Exclusive cards (it was correct in other documents, but the way this particular sheet was sorted assigned them the wrong tags). This is the very last step in the process and occurs after visual and technical approval of the print proofs. After this point we do a lot of checks with pack simulations around ensuring balance of rarities with boosters – at which point we knew for example that all the packs have the right number of Uncommons and Mythic Heroes are appearing in the right number of packs. None of this covers for specific cards by name however. It also didn’t get picked up during the spot checks of final product; simply because there is no guarantee these cards will appear in every booster box, we didn’t notice they were missing until our team opened a larger number of boxes and discovered they were entirely missing; at which point the error was caught.

We’ve now added a new check to our quality assurance process during the pack simulation stage in regards to ensuring specific cards appear correctly, to make sure that this doesn’t happen again in future.

What’s Going To Happen?

We want to make sure that Tantosian Blacksmith & Weapon Master remain accessible cards for players; one of the primary reasons that both of those cards were intended to be reprinted in Kindred was because of their interactions with the 19 new Item cards present in the set. To that end we’ve added reprints of Tantosian Blacksmith & Weapon Master to the next product that we are releasing. In addition to this; when you scan in your first Kindred Item card into the Digital app; you will receive a Digital copy of both Tantosian Blacksmith & Weapon Master once Kindred is playable later in August.

We weren’t going to be talking about it for another couple of months, but we are currently working towards the release of the first Lightseekers: Rift Pack. This Rift Pack will feature a number of Lightseekers boosters along with foil copies of 2 Rare Item cards from Lightseekers: Awakening including never before seen Items for the Astral and Nature Orders. Not every Item card will be reprinted in that set; and we’re going to have more details on this in the future. The Tantosian Blacksmith & Weapon Master in this product will be available in both foil and matte versions, and will slot neatly into your Kindred collections.

As always we are always looking to take on feedback, and any questions you may have, feel free to reach out to us on Facebook, Twitter, the Forums, or by emailing contact@lightseekers.cards

Kindred Locations Family

Hi Lightseekers,

We’re finally here, the last Family to look at in Lightseekers; this one is a bit different to the others. That’s right, we’re looking at Locations.

“How much of the world have you truly seen young one? You think that the hustle and bustle of The Citadel is everything that these lands have to offer? You need to get out, see the world! Spend one day studying the sealife of the Shimmering Isle and you’ll learn more than a year spent in this overcrowded city. Marvel at the machines of the tyrax, Observe the Kreebal doing… whatever they do. Mark my words child there is more to see in this world then what sits behind these great walls.”

Seleni, Yikona Council of Elders.

Now that we’re up on all the different places that make up the wonderful world of Tantos; let’s take a look at the first spoiler, a mighty Location belonging to the everok of the Mountain Order; the Grand Statue:

Following in a firm tradition of Mountain storing cards for later use (looking at you Stone Scribe), the Grand Statue collects Earth cards that would otherwise be languishing in the Discard Pile and puts them to use increasing your damage. It wouldn’t be a true Mountain card if it didn’t take a while to get going, so it requires you to get 3 cards stored to turn its effect on. As an added benefit, it’s difficult to unmake something as powerful as this Location, so it can’t be Returned from play, though it can still be Removed.

Our next spoiler is one that can be used by any Order, and one we’re sure is going to see a lot of play over the coming months. Have you ever had to bite back that groan of frustration as your opponent Chimchu Infiltrator’s back their Pathfinder to play it for the 6th time? Felt defeated as Granite, Geode Hatchlings back an Emergency System for that 1000th point of healing? Faced down the blockade of Mossridge Defenders and Stumpdrift Shamans perpetually brought back by Root Singers? Allow us to introduce you to Font of Misfortune:

When Font of Misfortune hits play it immediately strikes in with a hit of 3 damage to your target. Perhaps more interestingly it also gives cards in all Heroes’ Discard Piles Burn. That’s right, if you were looking for a way to shut down cards that interact with Discard Piles, then Font of Misfortune is the Location for the job (albeit temporarily). It’s important to note that Font of Misfortune doesn’t discriminate – all players will suffer from having their cards trapped in the Discard Pile equally.

We’ll have more Location based spoilers over the next couple of days – as well as a brand new Mythic rare Hero this weekend. Get your hands on Lightseekers: Kindred on August 7th!

Lightseekers Digital Game – Out Now!

Greetings Lightseekers,

The day has arrived, we’re happy to announce that the Lightseekers Digital Game is now fully released. We’re very grateful to everyone who participated in the closed beta and helped us to make Lightseekers Digital as good as it can be; and we’re excited about all the upcoming updates and new features we’re working on (we’ll have more news on the digital roadmap in the near future). With this release, there are a few pieces of information that have already been communicated to beta players that everyone should be informed of, as well as a new announcement about Kindred in Lightseekers Digital.

To download the game head to this page and follow the instructions!

Changes to Digital Cards:

With the reasonably easy ability to edit cards in the Digital Trading Card Game, all existing and future banned cards will receive erratas that bring them back into a playable status digitally. This means that cards will still have value as they can be scanned into the Digital version and played with. All current erratas and updated texts for the Physical game will be present from the outset of the Digital version.

At the current time we are still going to have those cards banned in Physical play, as they create memory and communication issues that we would like to avoid. If we see opportunities to reprint these ‘banned’ cards, we will do so with their updated text and allow them back into play in Physical events.

Open up your collection in the app to check out the exact changes to all these cards.

Lightseekers: Kindred

We’re very excited to see players get their hands on Lightseekers: Kindred on August 7th (or slightly earlier if you come see us at Gen Con!), but we had a tricky decision to make in regards to its availability in the Digital version of the game. At the current time, Lightseekers: Kindred will be able to be scanned and claimed into the app as of August 2nd (the first time players will be able to get their hands on cards), and will be fully playable in both ‘casual’ and ‘ranked’ game modes before the end of the August.

There were a couple of reasons behind this decision; firstly we want to ensure that the quality of card functionality in the Digital game remains high, and there was lots of work to be done behind the scenes implementing Kindred with the addition of Families to the game. Secondly we’re aware that we are going to have a lot of new players coming into the game straight through the digital version over the coming weeks, and we would like to make sure that things aren’t too overwhelming straight off the bat with the card pool. So for both these reasons we’re going to take a few weeks and make sure everything is all up to scratch before letting you lose on Kindred.

Of course there’s nothing to stop you from playing new decks Physically, and in fact we’ve got a competition to announce in regards to that. We’re going to be on the hunt for the most creative deck using new Kindred cards over the next few weeks – we’ll have all the details on that in the very near future.

Future Updates and Features

Of course, just because this is the official launch, it doesn’t mean that we are done with adding features and new fun things to the game. In the near future we will be putting up more details of our development roadmap that’ll cover our planned schedule for updates; and of course we will be looking to get your feedback on what your thoughts are on those features!

Look forward to seeing you all in game!

Kindred Family Update for Awakening

Greetings Lightseekers,

With the arrival of Lightseekers: Kindred on August 7th, things are going to get a whole lot more… Familiar. That’s right, today we’re going to be discussing Families, specifically who belongs to a Family and who doesn’t.

All the cards that have been printed in Lightseekers: Mythical and Kindred (including the reprinted cards in the Kindred Decks) already have Family icons; but the question has been asked a number of times, as to what is happening with the cards from Awakening that haven’t been lucky enough to be reprinted. Well, don’t worry, we’re not going to let your Chimchu Lookouts and your Kreebal Saboteurs miss out on fitting in with the rest of their Family.

When we update the Card Database to include the cards from Lightseekers: Kindred we will also be updating all the existing cards to display their appropriate Families; including the cards that have not yet been reprinted with icons physically on the card.

The cards affected by these changes are as follows:

Beast
Mirror Beast
Shapeshifter
Draga Hunter
Devourer
Ambush Worm
Den Mother
Symbiotic Gnarler
Stampeding Tusker
Crackling Beast
Therapeutic Eel
Impressed Seahorse
Suspicious Squid
Bone Chewer

Chimchu
Chimchu Lookout
Shadowy Figure

Elemental
Prismatic Sun Feeder
Light Lasher
Dimensional Hunter
Reality Twister
Abyss Weaver
Magma Spitter
Flamechained Elder
Rock Rager
Exteria Defender
Geode Hatchling
Spore Feeder
Fungal King
Spirit Channeler
Evaporator
Hurricane Spirit
Storm Whisperer
Looper

Insectoid
Noxious Mantix
Mantix Raider
Zapper Bug
Dancing Flutterer

Kreebal
Firesparker
Frenzied Kreebal
Kreebal Jester
Kreebal Raid Party
Kreebal Saboteur
Kreebal Potion Master
Unruly Mob

Location
Sun Beacon
Suntop Monastery
Flying Fortress
Spirit Gate
Shattered Volcano
Temple of Patience
Colossi Ritual Site
Focus Chamber
Flower Garden
Alchemy Lab
The Heap

Machine
Mageship
Perpetual Cannon
Force Converter
Time Chamber

Robot
Unstable Defender
Automatic Avenger
Dugout Sentinel

Umbron
Defiler
Umbron Marauder

Undead
Mimicking Horror
Shadow Wraith
Coercive Spirit

In regards to tournament play, we understand that it will take some time to adjust and remember which cards now belong in Family groups; in some cases it is easier than others due to the cards name or art (e.g. Defiler has an Umbron character in its art, or Mirror Beast being a Beast), but others are not necessarily immediately as clear. If you are unclear and would like to confirm the Family of a specific card during a game (whether it is in play or not) you are more than welcome to ask a Tournament Official to confirm for you.

We can’t wait to see the decks that you all come up with when Lightseekers: Kindred hits; if you have any further questions or concerns please don’t hesitate to contact us via Facebook, Twitter, on the Forums, or by emailing us at contact@lightseekers.cards

Kindred Mountain Deck

Hi Lightseekers,

This week we’re going to be looking at the last new deck that comes out alongside Kindred, for Mountain we have, Elemental Engagement. At the forefront of this group is the vengeful oakthorn, Cinderbranch; who can only be found in this deck:

Sporting a very nice 31 Health, along with the damage heavy Superior Element in Fire, Cinderbranch is not only prepared to take hits, but slug them out with the best of them. Alongside this, his Ability encourages you to be laying down damage with your Fire cards, then following it up with additional damage. Whether it be an Attack card like Flame Bat, a Defend card like Molten Swimmer or even a Buff card like Magma Worm, any of these will enable you to ‘fire off’ Cinderbranch’s Ability for an additional 2 points of damage. Of course, there are quite a few different Fire cards that are present in the Elemental Engagement deck right out of the box, but with how broad the criteria is to fulfill his Ability we don’t think you’ll have trouble finding cards to swap in from Kindred (or any of the older sets)!

Despite his fearsome appearance, we managed to convince our Sages to get some research done on Cinderbranch, and here is the story they brought us back:

Thousands of voices had been silenced in a matter of hours. So few able to escape the imminent threat; watching as the flames consumed all of those that had called this place home. Ancient trees residing here since the first days of this world, powerless to break from the roots that dug so deeply, now lost forever.

Stumbling through the smoke it came, neither forest nor flame, but something tangled between the two. In the same way as its physical form sat in uneasy alliance, so too did its subconscious, veering quickly from burning rage to profound, all-encompassing sorrow.

What had become of this place? Surely this is not how it had always been? Searching its memory for answers, it found nothing but deep, unshaking, anger. “Who am I? Where am I?” The answers, lost in the pit of its mind.

The lost soul stretched out its palm, grasping at the ashen remains of a once great oak, the touch reducing what had remained to nothing more than cinders. Pulling away, it took a moment. The bright white ash, a stark contrast against the charcoal black of its own skin; skin now covered in deep, jagged scores that revealed a core of roaring heat.

Onward it travelled. As the final glimmers of daylight faded, the lost soul continued. It would not stop for rest or thirst. Its only desire, the hope of finding someone or something to guide its journey, to help recover all that had been lost.

Coming to a sudden halt, it spotted something; the scorched head of an axe, still shining in the moonlight, buried deep within a tree’s severed trunk.

Then it struck. A flood of searing rage and the memory of what had happened in this place. A horde of cruel beasts cutting and burning their way through these once beautiful lands. Their weapons of war destroying everything they fell upon; whether tree or oakthorn, their ruthless response had been swift.

For a fleeting second he saw them; his brothers and sisters falling in defence of this sacred land. Their numbers too few to stem the tide of such an unstoppable force. Where were their reinforcements? Where was the Warden? Defence of these lands was the duty he had sworn. He should have been here leading the charge, falling by their side.

Had he truly fallen? If so, what now stood in his place? Looking upon his charred and broken husk, he felt neither alive nor dead; an entity lost between two worlds.

If he was to be damned, then he would find meaning in this new life. He would become vengeance for this once great land.

All who had a hand in what happened here would be held to account. Whether umbron or oakthorn, they would answer for their sins.

As per the usual, we’ve got one more card to share with you today, a card that plays very nicely with the Elemental Family; the Colossi Gateway:

The Colossi Gateway provides a very powerful Ability, allowing you a one time shot to bring back 3 Elemental cards from your discard pile to your hand. This can be used aggressively to bring back damaging cards like Flamechained Warriors or Magma Spitters, or more defensively to bring back cards like Exteria Defender. That’s not even getting into all the Elemental cards that can be found outside the Mountain Order, or looking at the new Elementals coming in Kindred on August 7th.

Included here is the decklist for Elemental Engagement – we’ll have more Elemental spoilers over the next few days before our newspost on Thursday covering the last Family in Kindred: Locations.
