UK Road to Regionals

Lightseekers has had an amazing response from our tournaments at PAX Unplugged and PAX South and now it’s time for the UK to get involved! We are hugely proud and excited to kick off our Road to Regionals tournament series! Our first Organized Play experience for the UK!

The UK regional tournaments will take place at the following locations:

Scotland – 10th February – Settlers Store – Hamilton
North England – 10th March – FanBoy 3 – Manchester
South East – 14th April – The Games Shop – Aldershot
South West – 5th May – Excelsior Games – Bristol

All of this leads to our epic UK final at the UK Games Expo in June at the Birmingham NEC where the top 8 players from each of the Lightseekers UK regional events will battle it out!

We would like to give a massive shout out to Settlers, Fanboy 3, The Game Shop and Excelsior for getting involved and helping us to bring these epic tournaments to life!

Prior to each regional event we will be working with hobby stores all across the UK to run our Organized Play series focused on the Road to Regionals events! These will be highlighted on our events calendar with an ‘RtR’ tag. At the RtR events you will be able to win regional ‘bye’ cards which will allow you to skip the first round of one of the regional events, bringing you closer to victory!

Current Road to Regionals events can be found on our events page here.

If you want to join in any of our Road to Regional events we recommend making sure you are fully registered on our website and signed up to the events in advance. You can still sign up on the day but signing up earlier will ensure you secure your display name and help you guarantee your place at the event! You can make things even easier for yourself by downloading the Lightseekers TCG companion app available now from Android and iOS app stores!

How to become “One with nature”

Theorycrafting is a vitally important part of playing TCGs and it is ultimately what allows you to have the best deck and be the best player you possibly can. Anthony, from the community team, will share some tips and tricks in this article on theorycrafting around a specific card.

One With Nature is a permanent combo buff that increases power by 2. This effect can allow us to do some interesting and creative things with cards from all Orders and in this article, I will point out some of the best cards One With Nature can be used with.

Astral
With the increased power, Anti-Gravity Snail suddenly becomes a much more powerful card. Anti-Gravity Snail normally allows you to do 2 damage and draw a card face up, if the cards are not Gravity then deal an extra 2 damage. With the increased power, the card changes to 4 damage and draw 3 cards face up, if the cards are not Gravity then deal an extra 4 damage. If you are running a Nature deck with just a few Gravity cards, chances are that you will get the full 6 damage.

Dread
Assassins Guild is a card which gives you an additional 2 actions with no stat restrictions. With the increased power, Assassins Guild instead gives you an additional 4 actions with no stat restrictions. Due to there being no stat restrictions, you are not limited to playing cards based on your Elements and superior Elements so this could allow for you to play lots of very strong cards all at the same time across Nature and Dread.

Mountain
Mountain is a very strong Order already with a lot of big damage and good card draw. Using the increased power of One With Nature, you can turn some good cards into some great cards! An obvious card to use with the increased power would be Ancient Miner: on its second corner you would get to draw 3 cards instead of 1 and its third corner would let you draw 4 cards instead of 2 giving you a lot of card draw potential from just a single card. However, if card draw is what you are looking for, then there is a better alternative. Focus Chamber is a Defend card that will normally allow you to draw 1 card and increase this by 1 if your opponent played a combo that turn. Focus chamber also will allow you to move 1 action buff into play which ignores your superior Element restrictions. If you use One with Nature alongside Focus Chamber it will allow you to draw up to 4 cards and move 3 action buffs into play with no element restrictions. This is certainly a very strong card to use for a lot of card draw!

Nature
As One With Nature is a Nature card there are a lot of very strong cards in Nature that benefit very well from the increased power. Root Singer is a Defend card that allows you to move 1 action card from your discard pile to your hand increased by 1 if you have more buffs in play than your target. With the increased power, this card can potentially allow you to move 4 action cards from your discard pile back to your hand. This gives you the ability to bring back and reuse some of your strongest action cards over and over again, creating some devastating combos.

Storm
As Storm is a very Combo based Order, the benefits it gains from having an additional 2 power don’t allow for a lot of immediate effects. However, when paired with Storm Whisperer to increase damage and healing of combos by 4 instead of 2 or with Suspicious Squid to create some possible deck milling opportunities by discarding the top 4 cards from your enemy’s deck when you play a combo, it suddenly becomes very strong. These effects can also be stacked by having multiple Suspicious Squids or Storm Whisperers out at once.

Tech
Tech is a slightly harder Order to use with One With Nature as a lot of cards in Tech do damage to you as well as your opponent so using extra power is just a bad idea. There are, however, a few cards that do benefit majorly from One With Nature such as Dugout Sentinel. Dugout Sentinel is a permanent buff that at the start of your turn allows you to draw 1 card if you have a combo buff in play. As One With Nature is a permanent combo buff, playing Dugout Sentinel along side it allows you to draw 3 cards at the start of every turn before even using any of your actions. This card draw can obviously be stacked by having multiple Dugout Sentinels allowing you to have loads of cards to play with each turn and not having to worry about wasting actions to draw.

As you can see, there are some interesting theories behind One With Nature. We obviously still have to look at the other side of the story as One With Nature is only a buff and can easily be removed by your opponent however, the chance is there to have some great fun with this card in a deck.

These are just a few of the ways you can use One With Nature to create some great decks and really strong combos. Now is when I hand over to you to see what decks you can build using this card and how effective you can make it!

Deck Spotlight – Kreebal Deck

Building custom decks is a great way to set yourself apart from others in the Lightseekers card game. To help you discover what combinations can achieve the best results we’ve asked members of the Lightseekers team to highlight their own combinations. To kick it all off here’s Ben from the event teams kreebal deck!

Hero
Lalu the Rascal

Combos
Overload
Storm Wall
Electrified Deluge
Tornado
Rolling Thunder

Storm Action Cards
Evaporator x3
Mari Bard x2
Storm Shaman x2
Electrified Moat x2
Crackling Beast x2
Thunder Slug x2
Dust Fiend x2
Vitalizing Frog x2

Unaligned Action Cards
Unruly Mob x2
Kreebal Raid Party x2
Kreebal Infiltrator x3
Frenzied Kreebal x3
Sneaky Kreebal x3

Ben’s Comments

This deck is pretty interesting, out of the 30 action cards that make up the bulk of a Lightseekers deck, 13 of the cards are Unaligned, why such a large percentage? What about combos? How does this work?

At the core of this deck are the humble Kreebal cards, Sneaky Kreebal and Frenzied Kreebal, both are common cards found in every starter deck and when the other players started to customize decks these two were the first to go. I wanted to see what would happen when you went the other way, instead of adding more cards from the Storm Order, I removed Storm cards and replaced them with as many of the Kreebals that I could get my hands on and see what happens. Using full sets of Frenzied Kreebals, Sneaky Kreebals and Kreebal Infiltrators and 2 of each of the Kreebal Raid Party and Unruly Mobs the unaligned core of the deck was set. Added to this were 2 of the most interesting cards in the Storm order: the Evaporator and the Mari Bard.

Once the core of the deck was sorted, the deck was filled out with Storm cards to bring out the best of the deck, Storm Shamans to boost damage, Thunder Slugs to remove any buffs that get in the way, Crackling Beasts for extra damage and Dust Fiends to help pay for those combos when needed. The action card section of this deck was rounded out with 2 Vitalizing Frogs for healing and 2 Electrified Moats for some protection. Combos were the easy part, Overload is the main combo here and the only one I want to play normally, the others were the high cost heavy damage combos that I could get to use with the Overload and the Evaporator action cards to get the greatest benefit out of these two cards.

The only decision after this was the choice of hero, Malia to get the most out of combos that would be played during the game or Lalu the Rascal to get that extra action when under 10 health. In the end Lalu won out due to her superior element – Lightning compared to Malia’s Air, as Lightning cards form the bulk of the Storm action cards in the deck Lalu was the better choice in the long run.

So how does it play? Well this deck is a bit of a rush beat down deck which can deal some really heavy hits with just a combination of action cards, having a Storm Shaman out and then using a Kreebal Raid party and discarding another unaligned card will net 11 damage while the Evaporator can hit for 12 if you discard Tornado or Rolling Thunder. Mari Bard can make a mockery of the opponents board while you do this, freezing the buffs for 2 turns. The Kreebals and the Evaporators cause this deck to play differently, I am not trying to save cards in my hand to pay for Combo cards instead saving Combos to boost Evaporator and making sure I keep a low hand size to get the most out of Frenzied Kreebals, this makes the deck fast and fun to play, confounding and confusing players.
