Twisted Monastery Deck

This deck is designed to deal huge amounts of damage to the opponent, using the Suntop Monastery to boost solar action cards and combos, while using gravity and lunar cards to punish your opponent, gain card advantage and protect yourself.

Decklist:

Hero: Constella
Combos
Black Hole
Anti-Gravity Field
Rippling Flare
Gravity Bubble
Eclipse
Action Cards
x3 Suntop Monastery
x2 Sun Beacon
x2 Mageship
x2 Astral Priest
x1 Mirror Beast
x3 Shapeshifter
x2 Yikona Tactician
x2 Yikona Oracle
x2 Lunatic
x2 Dusk Feeder
x1 Subjugator
x3 Reality Twister
x3 Pathfinder
x2 Spectral Guide

At the core of this deck are two action cards: Suntop Monastery and Reality Twister, these two complement each other so well. The Suntop Monastery increases the damage of your Solar cards by 2 when the last discarded card is Lunar while Reality Twister means that that is always the case. With such a potent combo this deck needs the full complement of 3 of each giving 12 guaranteed turns of up to 6 extra damage from each solar card in your hand.

So which Solar cards should you use to take advantage of this combo?

Astral Priest leaps to mind first – 3 damage, increased to 6 if the last discarded card is Lunar, seems tailor made to take advantage of the above combo, giving you up to 12 damage off one attack, this could get brutal. As the standard attack card of this deck it was chosen above the more vanilla Chimchu Militant which is just a straight 5 damage.

Mirror Beast – this card is an absolute nightmare for your opponent, 3 damage and if the last discarded card is Gravity, it goes straight back into your hand. This beast coupled with the Monastery/Twister combo means at least 5 damage and the card always comes back to your hand. Four turns of this and you have taken 20 life from your opponent, without you actually losing any cards from you hand.

Sun Beacon – the Sun Beacon is a very powerful card, but a double-edged sword – you get 5 healing and deal 4 damage but you have to draw and discard the top card of your deck. This could backfire badly in the early game, losing a critical card to the discard pile, but late game, it could keep you from the brink and take your opponent closer to death. The healing the Beacon gives you remains the same but have enough Monasteries out and you could be looking at up to 10 damage, enough to swing the game in your favour at a critical moment.

But which buff? There are two solar buffs that could be used in this deck, Mageship and Dawn Stalker, the Mageship if faster but doesn’t have the damage potential that the Stalker can generate, the decision is up to you which one to go for, be wary though a keen opponent is more likely to debuff a Stalker for fear of its innate damage potential.

Dealing with your opponent

Astral is all about control when it comes to dealing with your opponent, there are a number of cards in the order which can prevent your opponent from performing vital actions in the game, Subjugators stop the opponent from attacking – for 2 turns! Paralysis Bug’s can stop the player drawing cards and playing defend cards, the Full Moon combo can stop the opponent from playing combos. Added to these cards is the Lunatic which is there to stop players thinking about playing buffs and if they forget dealing 2 damage to them when they do.

As this deck is more about damage and less about the control aspect of Astral, the following cards have been chosen – the Subjugator and the Lunatic, the Subjugator should be used when needed, such as the turn a player deploys a Storm Shaman or Colossi Ritual, this stops the opponent from using the buff to its greatest effect. Having 2 Lunatics lying in wait on the board will cause the opponent to either stop playing buffs or regret playing the one they just had.

Pathfinders are there to take care of any unwanted buffs your opponent has in the way, while a Twister is out, you will always be able to remove 2 buffs from the board instead of just one.

Card advantage, damage reduction and healing. The rest of the deck should be made up of cards which give you an edge over the opponent. Yikona Oracle for some damage reduction should be a must, while slower than cards from other orders, the damage reduction is a solid 3 for 3 out of the 4 turns.

Healing cards like Dusk Feeder and Yikona Tactician supply a solid amount of healing which is boosted by the Twister in the case of the Feeder and gives you another action from the Tactician, both are a must for this deck.

Spectral Guides are great buffs for early game card advantage, allowing you to draw an extra 5 cards over 3 turns, the best way to dig the Twisters and Monasteries out of your deck early. The other way you can do this is with the Shapeshifter. The Shapeshifter is a super card, card draw as well as damage or healing (or both) if the card is from one of the other elements, I have a particular fondness for this card and try to have a full set in the deck.

What about the Hero and Combos?

There is really only one hero that is perfect for this deck – Constella. Constella’s ability is not that interesting, being one shared with a number of other heroes. She doesn’t even have that much starting health, only 28, so why is she perfect?

The answer lies in her elemental superiority, both Solar and Gravity, this is a dream for this deck an will allow you to get the most out of the damage and the card advantage that this deck can offer. Early game, play a Spectral Guide which draws a Reality Twister out of the deck, Constella allows you to play that one as well. Late game you have 2 Monasteries and a Twister out, Constella allows you to play both an Astral Priest for 10 damage and a Mirror Beast for 7 and get the Mirror Beast back in your hand. Its this flexibility that makes it so powerful.

The Combos in this deck are there to be explosive. Black Hole and Gravity Bubble deal a ton of damage (boosted by the Monasteries you have out) and either get rid of your opponents buffs or cause them to expire quicker. Rippling Flare is a great damage dealer in multiplayer for a relatively cheap price, again this can be boosted by the Monasteries you have out. The last two are not as powerful be still pretty useful, Anti-Gravity Field has the potential to deal 14 damage while giving you card draw and fulfilling the requirements of the Monasteries and Mirror Beasts when it hits the discard pile and last but not least Eclipse for a bit of healing (always useful) and removing cards from your opponent’s hand.

This deck is pretty versatile, offering the player a huge amount of damage potential and backing it up with card advantage and quite a bit of staying power, works well in both 1v1 and multiplayer conditions and should be able to take out the most hardy decks that are out there.

Tenebra’s Dilemma

Tenebra towered over the broken assassin as tendrils of dark energy bore through his chest and into his very soul. The sounds that escaped his throat were no longer that of a man, but rather a beast caught in a trap, howling and snarling in an attempt to free itself to no avail.

The voice called again ‘End this now! We shall find our answers in his unmaking’

She wanted it more than anything, she wanted this man to suffer for his crimes against her, against her family. Someone should pay, so why not this disgusting creature? A man that weighed the value of a person’s life against a purse of gold. Take him from this world, leave it a better place for all, She had felt the shadows pull many times before; coming to her as a friend, offering what might seem like sage advice, but she knew whatever it wanted was not for her own well being but to fulfill it’s own dark needs.

The young woman’s hands began to tremble, this was not right. She was better than this. She would not become the woman her father’s letter had painted her to be. Pulling her hands away in a quick jerking motion the dark energy that flowed from them was instantly extinguished. The voice in her head, gone; back to the depths of her mind for another day.

The assassin lay eerily still, his skin now appearing aged, grey and waxy; like a mannequin after many long years of service. Then with a choking gasp and deep convulsion he returned to the land of the living.

“Where is he, tell me!” Her cry a mixture of sorrow and unfocused rage.

The confidence that once oozed from the man’s words had vanished; what remained was nothing more than a whisper. A voice so soft that even the gentlest of breezes might mask it.

“Louder,” she demanded, a well placed kick delivered to the man’s ribs reinforcing her frustration.

Again he opened his mouth to near silence, whatever damage had been done by the witches magic would not be quickly remedied.

Tenebra moved quickly and with purpose, grabbing a fistful of the man’s hair as his face met with her own. Her other hand dancing an intricate pattern, one it had done many times before as coils of energy began to form in her palm.

“Speak now, this is your final warn…,” then she knew nothing but pain.

Where or when he’d acquired the blade she wasn’t sure, but she felt it as it burrowed into her flesh, a sensation of searing agony blooming from somewhere around her midriff. She hit the floor in an instant as a sticky wetness began to seep into her clothing.

“Final warnings hey?” A cheshire grin shot across the assassin’s face as he cut through the last of his bonds. “You see the important thing isn’t getting the upper hand, it’s keeping it”

Struggling to his feet, he found his balance against the towering oak that only moments before may have become his final resting place. In his hand laid a blade no thicker than pen. With a quick twist of his wrist the weapon disappeared back into a pocket intricately woven into his tunic, invisible to the eye.

Tenebra struggled to focus on the room, everything around her warped and began to grow dull. The man moved closer to her now, the remnants of his bindings clutched in his hands.

“Try not to die on me girl, I want to get paid and we’ve got a long way to go”

Then darkness.

Deck Suggestions – Scabious Deeproot

Scabious Deeproot wants to use abilities, specifically non-item abilities, so how can we take advantage of that? This Nature/Dread deck should be able to give you countless opportunities to trigger his ability while causing no end of grief for your opponent.

Hero: Scabious Deeproot
Combos:
Beast Control
Raging Spirit
Treetop Tribunal
Territorial Dominance
Corrupt Wildlife
Actions Cards
x2 Mossridge Defender
x2 Stumpdrift Shaman
x1 Fungal King
x2 Den Mother
x2 Hungry Behemoth
x2 Stampeding Tusker
x1 Mantix Tunneler
x1 Royal Bumbler
x2 Spectral Web
x2 Reckless Spirit
x1 Fungal Medium
x1 Empowering Sanctum
x2 Shade Ripper
x1 Grimglider
x2 Shade Whirler
x1 Night Lurker
x1 Swamp Creeper
x2 Shadow Puppet
x1 Abyss Weaver
x1 Abyss Tentacle

Nature and Dread have a range of buffs which the player can take advantage of to trigger Deeproot’s ability so it makes sense to give the Nature hero a bit of Shadow to bring out his potential. Swamp Creeper and Night Lurker will provide Deeproot a way of getting extra use out of finished buffs and the Creeper can bring them right back into the deck for use at a later time.

The Animal Element is where the best ability buffs are, Hungry Behemoth is by far the standout buff in this category. Having both Defend and Attack abilities and only rotating when the Defend ability is used, the Behemoth is rightly feared your opponents. Stampeding Tuskar and Den Mother offer extra damage but unlike the Behemoth they are timed abilities, use them or lose the chance. Mantix Tunneler has a bit of a build up but when he is ready, dishes out some serious damage.

To round out the Animal part of the deck is the Royal Bumbler, this buff is very interesting, they only rotate when use activate a defend ability and have an attack ability on their last corner which also restarts the buff. Using the Behemoth and Tuskar abilities to heal and restart themselves you can get the Bumbler to its final corner and then deal a massive 8 damage (plus the 1 damage from Deeproot) and then the Bumbler restarts and you get to do it all over again.

The last two nature ability buffs to add to this deck are the mighty Fungal King who deals up to 5 damage depending on how many buffs your opponent has in play, and the Fungal Medium, depending on how you feel that turn, it can either give you a bit of healing or send a bit of damage to your opponent.

All of these buffs can create significant headaches for your opponent and they are going to want to debuff them as fast as they can. At certain times that may be what you want, playing a Behemoth or Fungal King to bait your opponent into wasting his small supply of debuff cards before you bring the rest of the deck to bear, other times you want to deny them the option and Nature has just the buff for that, Spectral Web. Spectral Web will stop your opponent from removing or returning your buffs for 3 entire turns, you can deal a lot of damage in that space of time, and a couple chained together will send your opponent into utter despair.

The Nature part of this deck is then rounded off with a few utility cards, Mossridge Defender for damage reduction, Stumpdrift Shaman for healing when you need it most and Reckless Spirits to remove the buffs that really annoy you.

There are more cards in Shadow that will take advantage and help you deal extra damage when you use an ability so it is a perfect fit. A couple of Shade Ripper cards and the Grimglider jetpack should give you ample chance to get access to those dread cards and the Grimiglider has an added bonus of dealing an extra damage when you have more than 4 buffs in play, which for this deck should be every turn.

Night Lurker and Swamp Creeper are your two best friends for this deck, the Lurker removes your used buffs for added damage and healing, while the Creeper brings those same buffs back into your deck. The addition of a couple of Shadow Puppets will give you event more options to remove buffs.

Access to shadow also gives you access to the Abyss buffs and they are perfect for your deck, Tentacles add extra damage and Weavers give you healing every time you use an ability which also causes Deeproot to activate his ability. Every ability you trigger causes a cascade of extra damage and healing.

The last card from Shadow makes this deck work even faster, the Shade Whirler removes the restriction of only being able to use 1 ability per turn, allowing you to activate multiple abilities on one turn, overwhelming your opponent.

This deck should be tough to beat, stopping your opponent from removing your buffs is key to this decks performance, if you can get into an overwhelming position on the board your opponent will not be able to counter even half of what this deck can bring to the table. Your opponent’s strategies and plans will disappear out of the window when you bring this deck’s formidable engine to bear.

Warning your opponents may not want to face this deck more than once…

Lightseekers April Update

Mythical Second Print Run

Hi Lightseekers, as many of you know, our initial print run of Mythical boosters featured 1 Hero in every 4 packs (and one Mythic Hero in every 60 packs). Based on your strong initial feedback, we moved quickly to change the Hero pull rate in our second print run to 1 Hero in every other pack (and one Mythic Hero in every 24 packs). That means every booster box now includes at least one Mythic Hero. These new booster boxes just hit our warehouse on Thursday. We’re currently working with our distribution partners to swap out their first print run booster boxes with new boosters from the second print run. This may take about a week or so to complete, so we appreciate your patience as these new boxes find their way into your local game store.

To identify if a Mythical box is from the second print run, check for a white sticker on the back of the box, in the bottom right corner. It is important to note that the Wave 2 on the front of the box refers to Mythical being the second Lightseekers set, and not to it being the second print run of the set; so make sure to look for the sticker.

Lightseekers Wave 3

As mentioned in our last post, we’re going to provide regular updates related to ongoing Lightseekers product development. This month, we’re going to address the status of reprints in Lightseekers Wave 3. We’re always eager to hear (and respond to) your feedback, so please let us know what you think of the changes we’re planning to make.

Reprints and Card Total

Based on the feedback we received from you about our Mythical expansion, Lightseekers Wave 3 has substantially fewer reprints. In fact, the entire 291 card set only features only 8 reprinted cards in our booster packs. That means more new cards in every single booster pack! Keep an eye out for future updates to get some more hints as to what these reprints might be (We’re pretty sure you’ll enjoy them)!

Our original goal behind reprints in Mythical was to ensure cards were available for newer players, as well as to introduce the new symbol on the left of the cards. We are now looking into other ways that we can deliver these reprints without affecting our booster sets; we’ll have some more on that in a future update.

Feedback

As mentioned earlier, it’s very important to us that we get your feedback on what we’re doing so that we can keep improving. If you’d like to reach out to us, you can do so via Facebook, Twitter or by emailing contact@lightseekers.cards. Look forward to seeing you with next month’s update where we start discussing the set structure and mechanics!

Lightseekers: Mythical – Answers & Going Forward

Hi Lightseekers,

We’ve received a lot of questions and feedback regarding the release of Lightseeekers: Mythical. First of all, thank you for your support as we look to expand the game and our amazing community of players. We’d like to take a few minutes to answer some questions we’ve received, offer some context and explanations for decisions that were made, and keep you updated about where things are going with Lightseekers moving forward.

Reprinted Cards

Mythical features 46 reprinted cards from Awakening. These are staple effects that we wanted to make available to newer players (as more and more are coming on board daily!) and cards that require the addition of new icons (in preparation for our next expansion). These reprinted cards are not a problem for players who are new to Lightseekers, however we understand it can be frustrating for players who’ve been with us from the beginning.

Hero Card Availability

Mythical has a lower appearance rate of Heroes in packs, as they feature 1 Hero in every 4 packs down from 1 Hero in every pack in Awakening. The feedback we received from players about Awakening was that they received too many copies of Hero cards, when only a single copy of a Hero is needed to play. In Mythical, we opted to solve that by (1) changing the appearance rate of Heroes in boosters down to 1 in 4 packs, and (2) by creating a wider variety of Heroes so there is a lower chance of pulling duplicates. In doing this, we recognize we have overcompensated in the direction of making specific Heroes more difficult to acquire.

Mythical Heroes

Mythical introduced a new rarity of card – the namesake Mythic Cross-Order Heroes; these appear 1 in every 64 packs. We wanted these Mythic Heroes to be very exciting and hard to get; so when people did get them they would feel special. Based on the feedback we received, we realise now that it’s more exciting and fun to have them to play with; and that their rate of appearance is too low.

Going Forward

Based on the feedback we’ve received so far, we understand that we have missed the mark on pack composition for Mythical and we want to do our best to make sure that we improve the player experience for future expansions. The community’s feedback is extremely important and vital to our success. We are committed to making a game that all of you want to play and support.

Mythical Second Print Run

There is a second print run of Mythical in the works; it corrects some of the issues surrounding Hero availability and the appearance of Mythics. The first change is that Heroes will appear 1 in every 2 packs, up from 1 in 4 packs. We’re hoping that this will make Heroes more accessible whilst still minimising the duplication issues from Awakening. The other change is that we have adjusted the pull rates of Mythic Heroes, which (combined with Heroes being in every other pack) now means they will appear 1 in 24 packs.

Unfortunately, this second print run was already too far along in the process for us to make any changes to the number of reprinted cards from Wave 1. We are currently exploring options for anything else that we can do to improve the Mythical experience; however we are limited by the long turnaround time on printing new products. We are, however, going to ensure that this is not an issue with Wave 3 and following sets.

Feedback

We greatly appreciate your support and feedback. We promise that we’re listening and will do everything we can to ensure Lightseekers improves with each new expansion. You can reach us via Facebook, Twitter or by emailing contact@lightseekers.cards. Moving forward, we promise to be more open with our plans in advance of each Lightseekers expansion so that we can obtain your feedback prior to launch.

If you have any additional feedback you would like to share please do let us know on our official forums.
